DWD (Driving While Distracted)

Readers of this blog have heard us carp for some time about the dangers of distracted driving. Now, the federal government is doing something to stop this nuttiness. Effective immediately, drivers of commercial trucks and buses will no longer be allowed to text while driving. Under federal guidelines that U.S. Transportation Department announced today, drivers of big rigs and buses may be subject to civil or criminal penalties of up to $2,750.

Now, if the feds would apply a similar rule to the rest of the drivers on the road, we'd all be much safer.

Thank you for staunchly advocating against multitasking, especially distracted driving. Just two weeks ago I replied to someone regarding the unsafe Toyotas and how to handle driving emergencies; I took the opportunity to digress and get on a soapbox about distractions:

"It’s tough enough reacting properly to (or preventing) bona fide accidents/incidents. I hope that ___, as a techie (software consultant), would agree that we must do a better job teaching all drivers that out-of-control technology use is unacceptable behind the wheel. Texting while driving, or using a GPS or laptop while in motion, is not only often illegal, but foolishly risky."

Please continue to take a tough stand against multitasking - especially when others' lives are at stake!
